Therapy for Trauma

Getting yourself into therapy is one of the best things you can do for yourself

“Unlike simple stress, trauma changes your view of your life and yourself. It shatters your most basic assumptions about yourself and your world — “Life is good,” “I’m safe,” “People are kind,” “I can trust others,” “The future is likely to be good” — and replaces them with feelings like “The world is dangerous,” “I can’t win,” “I can’t trust other people,” or “There’s no hope.”

Our Trauma Treatment

  • Trauma-informed and Culturally Sensitive Individual Therapy

We offer a therapeutic approach that recognizes the impact of trauma on an individual's mental health while also respecting and considering their cultural background, beliefs, and experiences. This approach involves providing therapy in a manner that is sensitive to past trauma, creating a safe and supportive environment, and acknowledging the cultural factors that can influence an individual's well-being. Our goal is to provide effective and respectful mental health support while honoring the client's unique experiences and cultural context.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Decentralization Reprocessing) Therapy

EMDR therapy is a structured protocol-based psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals process and alleviate distressing memories and symptoms, particularly those related to trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It involves guided bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or tapping, to facilitate the reprocessing of traumatic experiences and the reduction of associated emotional distress.

The following two videos explain how EMDR works:

  • IFS (Internal Family System)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is effective for trauma recovery because it helps individuals identify and address the various sub-personalities or "parts" within themselves that may have been affected by trauma, enabling them to heal and reintegrate these parts. This approach fosters greater self-compassion and resilience, supporting the individual in processing and overcoming traumatic experiences. Moreover, It helps individuals build long-term coping resources for emotional stability and regain a sense of control in their lives.

  • Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is one of the practical applications of Polyvagal Theory. It is a five-hour therapeutic listening intervention designed to support the client's emotional regulation and neuroception (i.e., their sense of safety), while also reducing auditory sensitivity. The SSP can help reduce emotional reactivity, enabling individuals to respond more calmly and effectively to challenging situations. Additionally, the auditory stimulation used in the SSP aims to calm the nervous system and alleviate feelings of stress and anxiety.

** Currently, we are only offering private pay option for individuals who are seeking SSP treatment exclusively at this time.

  • Relational therapy for Trauma & PTSD

Relational therapy (RT) takes into account the client's past and current relationships, cultural, gender, racial, social, sexual, and economic background. Through the lens of RT, individuals with a history of trauma have the opportunity to explore healthy boundaries and develop secure attachments in the therapeutic relationship. Therapy allows individuals to practice effective communication and repair relationship ruptures in non-toxic ways.
